My 4 week old son has hard lumps under his breast area...I didn't notice it until last night. One breast is larger than the other. I know that I read in my books that it's normal for the breasts to be swollen - but this seems to be different than just swollen. They seem to be like knots or lumps under the his actual breast. I wasn't sure if it has something to do with my hormones still being inside him or what. But I have been really worried about it. Does anyone know if this is normal?

Hi!Lumps under the breast of very young babies is a normal occurrence. Try pressing it and milk may come out. They call this witch's milk. If it bothers him, like if he cries everytime the lump is touched and its warm and reddish, then that's another story. For your peace of mind, take him for a visit to the doctor and hear what they have to say.I still think they are the experts on this.

It is 100% normal. When we left the hospital the nurse pointed it out to me, she called them M & M breast b/c it feels like little M & M's under there. When my daughter went for her follow up visit at 4 weeks old her doctor felt them and said it was perfectly normal. I honestly haven't even checked them in a few weeks to see if there were still there...but rest assured it is perfectly normal.

As long as the lump is not red or tender, and you son is running no fever, this is perfectly normal. It is presumably the effect of your hormones that crossed the placenta into your infant. The lumps will resolve naturally.

Do NOT squeeze, massage, or apply any compresses, salves or other ointments.

Discuss your concerns with your pediatrician.

they are milk glands from exposure on your hormones in utero. some infants even lactate. they ought to flow away over here couple of weeks. many females human beings produce extra milk in one area or the different, it is likewise conceivable that one area has been leaking extra. there is an exceedingly small danger that the only area has substitute into blocked and contaminated, yet your infant could have a extreme fever while you're worried communicate on your physician. FYI even boy infants lactate. ALL MAMMALS MALE OR lady can lactate. adult men only tend to no longer have the right hormones to take action, besides the undeniable fact that lactation is a area consequence of a few drugs
