Comets do not orbit around the Earth; they orbit around the Sun. Comets approach the Earth routinely, but most of them are not impressive or even visible in the night sky. The most spectacular comets tend to be long period comets, that only approach the inner Solar System every few hundred years, meaning that they are only discovered when they appear, and therefore cannot be predicted.
