I was in this situation awhile back myself and I consider him my former stepson. I could care less if I ever see this kid again, however my children use to want to have a relationship with him so I did try for that. But all the former stepson and his mother cared about were money and presents--none of which they got from me.

I think that you shouldn't have spanked him because a) thats kind of disgusting b) he's 14. thats a bit old for that kind of punishment (especially in front of his friends) but on the other hand, burning your leather sofa is way out of line! If I was you I would have done more than just tell him santa doesn't exist. plus he's 14, he should know by now that santa isn't real ( sooner or later his friends would have started making fun out of him for it. I think I was about 6 when I realised he doesn't exist. I think your stepson might need help because it sounds likes he might have pretty bad anger problems.

"former stepson" sounds nicer than "ex-stepson." But I suspect the real terminology would be "ex's son."

If she doesn't care if she sees him ever again, then there is no need for a label.
My step-daughter is now 25, I haven't been married to her father since she was 7, but her and I have remained close.

She has no ties to him. There would be no correct terminology.. Other than "My ex -husbands son"

If she doesn't care if she ever sees him again, then why does she care what she would call him?
She'd have no reason to call him anything. He's nothing to her....just a kid.

If she doesn't care if she ever sees him again, what difference does it make what she calls him?

This is sad. A child has nothing to do with adult relationships falling apart. This question is cold hearted and plain wrong.
