Same reason they do a lot of other risky things, because a life without risk is a boring, wasted life. Loving is risky and can be scary, but when it works out it can be rewarding beyond imagining. A good marriage is an asset that can make your life easier. Conversely a bad marriage can kill you. Becoming a teetotaler (I'll never commit, I'll never divorce) is not, IMO, a healthy way to live.

As someone said but put differently, I think people still want to get married because of the illusions presented by television and movies, as well as the fantasies of having it as good as past generations.
Personally, I think marriage is a way some people find security, while knowing if their other decides to back out, there will be consequences that the other is most likely not willing to risk.
It is a ball and chain so to speak. If you get get it over the wall then you've accomplished a great feat.
But if you saw it off, dig a hole and crawl under the wall, then you've accomplished nothing despite the fact you've indeed managed to escape.

Thats a great question.
Marriage was created in a time when our live spans were very short. People only lived until they were 30.
It was made to unite family's, like a business transaction. not for love.

So now, in todays society. We are trying to force a tradition into something that it was not meant for.
I don't see the need to get married. I think it is great if two people want to do it. But I hate how it's expected of two people when they are together or want to have children.

for one they realize their marriage was an accident
two. They get bored of each other
Three. Hollywood shows that its fun to cheat, but they never show the consequences of it....
Four. The husband or the wife realize that they are gay.
Ok, some people still get married because they think that they really love a person... some find out its true, others, false(so those people get divorced)....
Or they need to get married to become legalized into a country or something. I think thats all I think why people still get married....

Because people shouldnt base their relationships on statistics! not every marraige fails. there are people who truely love and devote themselves to another person ONLY!! It is just that now a days there are so many more available temptations, like numerous strip clubs, phone sex lines, online vides sex, disgusting find sex search sites, swinger clubs and other things that men and women fall into when they get tired of their spouse for any reason! people shouldnt marry if they truely arent ready for monogomy, because divorce rates are high mostly due to infidelity, also the cost of living now a days is sky high therefore creating financial issues which can also break a relationship apart....but why discount marraige due to others actions! love is love and if its real than you can get through and over any issue that is presented in a relationship...its all about working together!!!

With all of the disease and accidents killing people....why are people breeding?

When you are happy and in love, what better way to spend your life than with that person for the rest of your life?!?! People who divorce either weren't ready for marriage before they got into it, or just didn't work hard enough to make the marriage work. I think it's stupid to ask why people still marry with a high divorce rate...there are many couples who do NOT divorce.

And there is something negative about pretty much EVERYTHING in life....so if you just want to focus on the negative, why even do anything?

I have no idea why honestly. The fact that they still do it prolly proves that its a desirable thing and that it does have values lovers would want to it to symbolize. However, the divorce rates may be linked to the inability to cope with that marriage, its obligations and all. In fact, you could argue that people divorce more, because they realize they're not in the relationship they dear for and not because love doesnt exist anymore.

Personally, its scaring me not to get into a relationship at all even.

Occasionally when two people meet a chemical explosion occurs, a physical love that can cause physical pain, making it seem all the more real. I do believe in love at first sight and if two people work at preserving this, marriage might stand a chance but forever is a minute. We are all bees loving pheromones!
There are other contributing factors of course.

I think it's ideal to find the one who's meant for you. Who wouldn't want to get married if they found that?
But I think the reason for the divorce rate is lust. So many people sleep around before marriage that they start to get confused and mistake lust for love.
