Never underestimate the effect simple artwork can have on a plain wall. Posters of famous paintings, for example a nice Monet, and can be framed cheaply. Also, try buying cheap bulk fabric and making floor length curtains over the blank walls, this adds not only colour, but texture to walls as well.

There are just so many ways. Just use your imagination instead of $. It's hard to give you ideas without knowing what you would like. When you're standing in line at the grocery store look through the mags and pick up free ideas. Then figure out how to get those things cheaply-yard sales, discount houses, Tuesday Morning and the like. I have gotten some great paintings of Texas countryside at yard sales-unbelievable ones but it took a lot of looking and patience. I have photos that I really like. I had them blown up and hung various sized pictures of places I have been and it pleases me everytime I see them. I sulked through Micheals and used the coupon you get every week to buy the frames one by one and then I found a bunch of them at one store on sale. I would like to do a collection of my family-all the old photographs of my mother and father and all those other ones I have stuck in a drawer. I even found a photo of my great-great-great grandmother. That will save them for posterity and on the back I'm will put a note about who they are and what I know so that they will not be forgotten. The photos will also be safe and protected. You can paint and paper and add anything you like. Just do something that you like and want to look at for a long time so that you don't have to constantly change it. Do something that pleases you and makes you happy to look at. Don't just decorate. My friend's hall is very simple with just a lovely small ornate table with a gorgeous crystal bowl full the best smelling potpouri I have ever smelled. It's her and perfect. If it were my house, that is where I would hang all those pictures of my family with the table and potpouri below. Enjoy. . .

Paint is the most cost effective way to change the feeling of the room. You can get bad mixed colors at a discount from paint stores and then go crazy.

You may want to try doing a base color in a high solid paint, cheaper paints always show walls and come off easy. Then go over the top with a large paint sponge (lightly) with another compatible color. It looks beautiful and it is easy. Good luck.
