Hi, we have a slimline Beko DE2431FW dishwasher, approx 18 months old. It seems to have 'froze,' there is no water going in to it, the button lights up as though it is washing, it sounds like it normally does before it starts washing but nothing happens? Any ideas anyone? Does it sound like a simple thing or do we need a new one? Its not blocked or anything like that and its been like it a couple of days now.........

http://appliancequickfix.com/ has some good info on dishwashers. See if you can track down your problem.

Find your manual to the dishwasher and it will give you clues as to what is wrong when the water doesn't come in. If you have lost it, go on line and it will probably be there. It sounds like whatever lets the water in is not allowing it to happen but I'm not a pro. If you have very hard water that happened to my washing machine and it was clogged full of water nasties and had to be replaced. I believe the same thing can happen to your dishwasher. The only other thing could be the thingie that you turn for different cycles but then you said it sounds like it is cycling. Perhaps a pro will come along and be generous to you. Or I bought the Time Life series long ago when I realized I was on my own for fixing things. They are excellent on instructions on how to repair and what is wrong. They have updated the series but my old one is just fine. Were I not so lazy this morning I would pull one out and find the names for the thingies but everyone else that will give you advice already knows them.

Check the incoming water supply first. Then check the solenoid that is part of the dishwasher, right where the water comes in. When you turn it on, it should click to allow water in.
