It depends on what system of units you are using. There are 16 avoirdupois ounces in an avoirdupois pound, but there are 12 troy ounces in a troy pound. Avoirdupois is the more common system (although troy is traditionally used for precious metals), and is assumed to be the meaning of "ounce" is not otherwise qualified.

1 pound = 0.4536 kgs
1 pound = 453.6 grams
as,
1 gram = 0.0352734 ounces
so,
1 pound = 453.6 * 0.352734
1 pound = 16 ounces

16 oz, unless you are measuring the weight of precious metals, which are measured in troy ounces. 12 troy ounces make one troy pound.
