The parking brake and the service brake usually use the same bulb in the dash, a red "brake" light. If your parking brake is fully off it may be a brake fluid leak or other brake problem. How does your brake pedal feel? if it is soft or hard to press you should have someone that knows have a look at it.
The brake light is one thing you should have looked at quickly, for safeties sake.

examine your brake fluid point and fill it up . start up the vehicle and spot if the lights furniture is going out. in the event that they do, then be sure your brakes linings are ok and you have no longer have been given any leaks. If no longer, you may desire to have the ABS, Anti lock Brake device, regarded at. there's a fault some the place. The purple Brake easy is on the two for the reason which you have a brake situation, low fluid, or the park brake swap is on. no remember if it somewhat is on the ABS easy won't bypass off.

To be politically correct, it is a parking, not an emergency brake. The light usually means your switch that tells you the brake is fully released is bad, or needs to be adjusted, or perhaps the lever itself is up just a tad. Lower it, or adjust, or replace the switch depending on what the problem turns out to be.

make sure your hand brake is all the way down . if the light does not go off you might have to take the console off the see if the switch is messed up

Bic lighter or something keeping the brake lever from going all the way down? (stick shift)

Try pulling up on the parking brake with your foot while pulling the release. (automatic)
