I have two very large and hardy plants. Those extra root things catch dead leaves and debris and make the plant bottoms look snakey and ugly. I see similar plants in other peoples' yards and I don't know if theirs are just a variety that doesn't make those, or if they've removed them. I have removed some of them with no obvious detrimental effects, but I'm afraid to just scalp them like I'd like to.

I have the same thing and like the look. I THINK they are just roots that form above ground and then dig their way in and so a well rooted plant wouldn't need them. Proof of theory-the plant has the little catch things that will grow out and help attach it to trees and when on the ground, these things turn into roots and you get another plant. You can rip them up, rip them off, put them in water and they will root there. It's very hard to kill Philodendrons as long as you water.

Pink Floyd. Rick Wright put out 2 solo albums and is working on a third. Syd Barrett put out 5. Gilmour did 3 and is working on another. Waters has 6 and even Nick Mason has 2 and wrote a book. While they all didn't leave, they did go on to have separate solo careers. edit: hey sarah
