I think religion applies a certain perspective to life, but doesn't necessarily change a person's actions. Priests can still end up abusing kids, and atheists can be great humanitarians.
Religion however can be dangerous because it allows for someone to pass anything, good or bad, into the hands of a deity or demon (the Devil made me do it!), allowing people to justify evil, whereas atheism makes the person fully responsible for their actions.
Some people respond better to religious guidelines than others, but religion or lack of religion isn't the deciding factor in whether people are good or bad, in the end it's up to you what you do.

I guess you can say 'ignorance is bliss' which totally describes a 'brainwashed' religious person.
I've been baptized twice, I believe in God but I don't need to go to a big fancy building to prove it.
I am more logical in my thinking than religious people are and I've done quite well.
As a child, I remember feeling extremely 'confined' with all the religion being stuffed into my brain. There were just too many rules and not enough freedom.
There is a 'social' aspect to it and that's great for those who need it but I have plenty of friends and I just refuse to be labeled 'Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Mormon' or anything else - I am a human being and that's it!!!

i would say no, there are many people who are very spiritual, yet do not belong to one religion, and there are many people that become a member of a certain religion, yet lose touch with their spirituality
the problem, that i see, with some who join an organized religion, is that they do start thinking there is one, and only one "right" way, that one religion is better then another
there are many paths to spirituality and self-improvement and God, just as there are many different types of people, it is based on your efforts, i feel, more then anything you label yourself
with all that said, religion does serve a purpose for many, they can join with others that feel as they do, they can comfort each other threw difficult times, and rejoice with each other in the good ones. it can become like an extended family, its all what you put into it, and want to get out of it

No........I don't think there's any relation between the two. Being religious doesn't always mean you'll do the right thing, and being an atheist doesn't mean you'll do the wrong thing. It's really silly to think you're better than another person because you're more religious than them. It's really what you do at the right time that makes you a good or bad person.

Poeple who are not religous can lead more productive lives ..
Example 1. we can wash our car on Sunday rather than church it.
Example 2. That money we donate to the church fund to fix the roof we can spend on lapdances and beer.
Example 3. We dont have to 'toft' our hat when we pass the vicar in the street , he will avoid you if he so much as thinks you will ask him to return that sack full of porn you lent him, last summer.
Example 3. when someone sneezes you dont have to say "bless you" instead you can say "not all over my sandwich dude , use a hanky too".
There are many.

actually data points in the other direction. Christian make up 75% of US population. Christians make up 75% of the prison population. Atheists make up 10% of the US population, yet atheists make up only 0.2% of the prison population. And believers are statistacally more likely to be less intelligent than atheists.

Statistics and logic prove otherwise... those who feel guilty and feel incapable of correcting themselves or their lives normally turn to religion. Remember Catholic Priests with their cover-ups and the incidence of religion in prisons.
Crime rates and their nature are higher/worse within poor and ignorant groups. So, is religious affiliation and the intensity/fervor of such affiliations.
There are more reason to be "good" than fear of punishment, be it by courts or deities...!

fantasy is metaphor and it makes use of a metaphor to teach a non secular psychological actuality with reference to the human adventure. So fantasy is actuality. ignore with reference to the understanding, the poetry and the training found out in a hundred,000 years of human adventure at your guy or woman peril. ignore approximately who we've been, what we are ,and how the human ideas interprets symbols and you will stay in an quite, very, unhappy and boring gadget worldwide.

Religion is great for the person who commits the crime because he is a follower (suicide bombing, sati etc). The atheists cant blame anyone.
