I wouldnt worry about it, you have your priorities in the correct order young lady and I congratulate you for that, family does indeed come first. If they fire you over this you will find something else, maybe something better than Wendy's!!!!!!

I am a store manager. I have fired people before for not coming to work without calling and/or showing up late. While your family is very important to you remember that thing very clearly "they are important to YOU" not your manager or the other people working there who have to cover your shift and pick up the work you were suppose to do.

Have you been late before? Did you call at any other time to explain yourself to any manager or assistant manager or even another employee? Was anybody excepting you to come into work at all today? Have you been at work since you didn't come in to work on Tuesday? If you didn't get in contact with anybody at the store and just showed up then you probably will get written up or just fired. You have only been working there for 2 weeks this sets a bad precedent for you with the Manager. The manager does not know you well enough to trust the fact that this is a one-time thing and will not turn into an ongoing problem. Unfortunately, many people take low-paying retail/fast food jobs as a joke and managers often get burned by giving their employees the benefit of the doubt. The manger has a family also and would like to be with them too.

It is unfortunate that your mother was in an accident and I hope she is alright but you may have to accept the fact that your manger does not see you has reliable and will fire you.

It is the employee who is required to notify the employer if there is a problem with showing up for work. If you called the restaurant for an hour and half with no answer, you may have not had the right number (?). Later in the day you should have called back again. If you showed up for work the very next day, before you clocked in you should have gone to the manager and said you needed to speak to him in private. Explain how important your job is, that you had tried to call a number of times, show the hospital emergency receipt, and ask if you are able to clock in. Putting the responsibility into your own hands shows responsibility. Asking permission from the manager puts you in the position of giving the manager permission to make a decision. If he stated no, you would then state "I understand" and "what time should I be here tomorrow". If the employer chooses to fire you, which they can for no-call, no-show (even if you had tried calling), then you are better off to find another employer.

"Actually 2 days before i got the call from work that my mom got into an accident, and the store manager was there. He told me to go,so the store manager already knows about my mom being in an accident and going to the hospital"

You left one shift early because of this!

"i had to go to the hospital at the last minute"

Unless your mother was died, or was close to it, you should have planned your visit when you were not supposed to work!

"I didn't do anything wrong"

You were expected to work and did not show up! It does not matter what the reason is, you did it wrong!

"I did call at least i tried to,but nobody answered the damn phone"

Are you sure that you had the correct number? Why did you wait until the next day, rather than going to the store as soon as you left the hospital? It is your responsibility to have the correct number, or to make sure that you call in well before your scheduled shift!

"I'm sorry but family is way more important to me than work"

Work is more important to your employer than any excuse!

Your employer hired you to do a job. In two weeks, you left early at least once and failed to call or show another time. You have gotten a bad start at this job.

Talk to the manager and apologize for your actions! Ask for another chance and if they give it to you, show up early for your scheduled shifts. Take your job seriously. I understand that you are worried about your mother, but you need to schedule your time better!

Seeing as you have only been there for 2 weeks, they are still unsure of your work ethic. They need people who will show up to work on time, ready to work! If you can not do that, they do not need you!

All employment that is not covered under a contract (personal or union) is considered to be "at will". You can quit a job at any time, for any reason, and the employer can fire you in the same fashion! Most likely if you admit your errors and ask for a chance to do better, they will not fire you. If you have the attitude that they are wrong for being upset that you did not do what you should have, then I doubt that you will be employed there long!

It's descrimination but it is also your word against theirs so, get a copy of your mom's accident report and some letter from the hospital or doctor that treated her on those days. Also, if there was anyone that witnessed you trying to call work, like they were with you when you tried, get a statement from them that is signed by a Notary Public and take all that information to your place of work. If you cannot get that within a quick time frame, then go in with your dad or someone that is a caretaker for you and talk to the manager with a witness explaning what you told us and tell them you are working on the proof and that it isn't your fault when you were definitely trying to contact them and noone would answer the phone. Make a suggestion that they need an answering machine for employees to leave messages at. If they still choose to fire you, get in writing from them their reasoning behind it and then if you feel it isn't justified, take it to a lawyer. They have lots of them who offer free consutations and can advise you if you are in the right and they are in the wrong. But the key is to get in writing their reason for firing you because they may say one thing and later give another reason and also if they tell you in person that it is for something other than this current missed work day, you can confront them right there with your caretaker there for support and as a witness.

I think that its not your fault. If your mom got into an accident and nobody answered the phone then its there fault. They didnt want to answer the phone so you never go to tell them why you werent at work. I think if you go to you boss or the store manager and explain the situation then maybe he will understand. Good luck and I hope you get your job back. And I hope your mother gets well soon.

You could have handled it better IMO. If the accident was 2 days prior you could have made arrangements for someone to work your shift or found the time to work the shift yourself. People who are constantly making excuses for not being at work are a real pain in the *** for businesses and you need to understand that when you don't show up, everyone else has to work harder and the operation doesn't work as well.

In your two weeks there how has your performance been? Have you been on time for all of your other shifts?

I live in a "Right to Work" state. So in my state you can be fired for any reason at any time.

These people don't care about you. No offense, but teen fast food workers are easy to find, and they won't keep you if they don't think you are reliable. You may be being honest, but they will think you are making excuses. Talk to whoever is in charge about it, not much else you can do.

go over the managers head, talk to the owner and explain what has happened in regaurds to what the manager has done, if this dosen't get the owners attention, then go a step higher and report this behavior to wendys corperate central, this guy is only the manager, that means he's kinda low in the food chain, theres lots of people over his little title, don't be affraid to go over his head if he is being unfair, there's plenty of people above him that would care about solving your problem.
