It all depends on the brand of lap top, but usually there is a setting that dims the screen when it is not plugged into the power source, ie, when running on batteries. Look in you power settings or monitor settings.

why spend money on a laptop when you can get it for free? just go to this site and complete a few quick tasks and they'll send you a sony vaio laptop at no charge!
