Five more American servicemen were killed in Iraq yesterday. Four more died from wounds here in the states. An even dozen were wounded, two of them permanently maimed. Fifty to a hundred Iraqis were killed and/or wounded...many permanently maimed. To what degree are we safer because of this?

their deaths aren't making us any safer... it's just making "them" angrier...

Being safe requires much thought.

Safety issues abound these days.

What's safe?

Bridges? They can drop on a dime on their own volition.

Bank Accounts? All subject to internet piracy and computer breakdowns.

People? They are more careless than ever, especially with their driving and condition of their vehicles.

So, you see, it's all a state of mind.

Safety can never be 100% or guaranteed.

With inclusion of possibilities of terrorist attacks, it makes the puzzle that much more complex.

I tend to focus on the nature of terrorist attacks, what their purpose might be...and as stated by a previous answerer, useage of military in a different world based on need for intelligence...is defeating the purpose.

We definitely need a different direction...and soon...if we can expect to be safer.

I really don't care if I'm safe or safer than I was yesterday. I live life one day at a time and don't live in fear. If it's my time to go then I'll go. Did you know that you have more of a chance being struck by lightning twice than by being killed by a terrorist in the US?

We are not safer -- in fact, even the Bush regime admits we're not as safe.....

DHS says terrorist attacks are imminent, US military and intelligence sources say that Al Qaeda is the strongest they've been since 2001 -- and the majority of our military is either deployed overseas or recovering from overseas deployment, meaning they cannot respond quickly to any threats.

How many soldiers died in the Balkans war? Also didn't Halliburton have a no-bid contract there?

I see. So you accused Bush using "fear" to win votes but at the mean time telling us "are we safer?"
