Hmm... I can not give you the entire routing. One suggestion is to swing out to the western portion of New York. Once there, catch I-81 and head south, catch I-77 at the southern tip of Virginia, and tool on down to I-85.

If you want to keep close to I-95... In New Jersey, hop off the New Jersey Toll Turnpike and get on I-295. I-295 parallels the Turnpike and does not have tolls. You will have a toll going south over the Delaware bridge. Once you cross that bridge, look for Route 13. I would catch Route 13 and head south. Route 13 will eventually lead you back to I-95/I-495 inner loop headed south to Richmond. You will see signs for Route 301 south. Great to avoid the DC traffic, but there is a toll on the bridge over the Potomac River.

South of the Potomac River, there are very few tolls on I-95 proper. In Richmond, there is a toll on the I-895 bridge (at Yankee cost) and the Powhite Parkway (.50 cents), but you should not really have to drive on either. (Hint, if you are driving through Richmond, VA between 5pm and 6:30, I would catch I-295 south/left exit to avoid rush hour traffic. Other than that, drive straight through on I-95 south.)

Have fun on your trip and good luck!
