Iraq will never be the same again just like Vietnam. Can Iraq heal? With time and not under occupation. No long lasting government has been developed under occupation ounce the occupying country withdrawals its forces, a struggle for power or civil war in sues. By remaining in Iraq we are only delaying the inevitable. Any government implemented by force will be met with resistance by the people of Iraq. In doing this we give the Taliban and other anti-American groups more allies. Will it ever be like before? Not as long as we (the USA) are there. Vietnam after we came home it took a few years and but they solved there own problems without our help.

A couple of examples to disprove your assertion that no lasting government has been developed under occupation and continued once the occupiers left are: Germany and Japan after WWII.
"Like before" wasn't very good in the case of Iraq.
These comments in no way say that I support the war in Iraq. I do not. Not because I really care about Iraq or the middle east, for that matter, but because I care about the US. I believe in the advice that Washington gave us when he warned us not to get involved in ancient foreign conflicts.

Except, in this case, the Iraqis voted. Remember the purple thumbs? They will get to vote again if we stay long enough for the process to play out. The only way what you're saying comes true is if we pull out too soon.

vietnam wouldn't have been able to solve their problems on there own unless we made it possible for them to be on their own and not under communist rule. iraq can now solve their own problems now that they are not under a dictatorship. germany is alot better with out hitler no?

Vietnam solved their own problems?!
Millions of innocents killed and 10000+ more died in the sea trying to escape from the commuists. You probably just ignored the history, right?

we will never leave iraq. as long as there is oil there and republicans here, we will be in iraq until doomsday. we should have just turned iraq into a very large pirce of glass by nuking it.
well, we can nuke it after we get all the kids out.

We are still in Germany, They have prospered. We are still a presence in Japan, they are doing fairly well. A country can recover while being occupied by us, your statment is incorrect.

why iraq? location! we lost our bases in Saudi Arabia. we needed permanent bases in the oil area to stage military operations from. it was not ever about helping the iraqis, even though some believed our presence would result in installing a west-friendly govt there.

It will take decades -- whether we are there or not.
Our presence just drags things out and increases the amount of violence.
