Having an open network and a private one!! Help me to understand why people make theirs private! Thanks!

If people leave their questions and answers open some troll will go to their profile, read each and every thing they did and either report them or thumbs down everything they do. Or send them flaming abusive email (been there, had that happen) and after getting deleted once (maybe) they make everything private and avoid the hassle.
