Are you kidding? One best hit? There were SO many... The eighties were severing from the 50's, 60's and 70's revolution in rock, establishing a new revolution in tecnological advancements by using more electronic sounds and electronic gadgets, a movement starting way back and manifesting through Edgar Varèse, Pierre Schaeffer and others who greatly influenced the more progressive musicians of the 60's and 70's, like Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd,Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, to name a few of the more popular ones who, along with the more traditional musicians helped inspire different styles for the eighties; even though the record companies tried to amalgamate everything to the disco beat. Because it made a lot of money. But, among my pirate's chest of invaluable gems, on this day, at this hour, I will pick, Thomas Dolby's, "Hyperactive", because it bucked the trend of the time and used heavy syncopation, but, in spite of sounding "experimental", it maintaned a solid beat and you could furiously dance to it. ...And it was funny!

The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen
You'd be hard-pressed to find an 80s hit that sounds less like the cliche'd idea of an 80s hit (Wham/Culture Club, etc.)
It's a timeless classic and if you've seen Donnie Darko, you already know it.

That my friend, is an impossible question to answer. Different songs are best for different situations, and moments in your life. Like Whitesnake "Here I go Again" is good when you're embarking on a new journey, or have just broken up with a girlfriend and you're listening to the radio cruising with your friends to a party spot on a Sat. evening. While Richard Marx "Right Here Waiting" is appropriate when you need to feel particularly sad, and reminisce. Excited on your way to meet some friends or pick up some chicks to hang out? Bon Jovi "Living on a Prayer" might be the pick-me-up you need to make you rock out in the car. If you need the perfect song to come on the radio while you and a few good buddies are on your way to confront an enemy, "Rock You Like a Hurricane" Scorpions might feel right. Guns N' Roses "Knocking on Heaven's Door" after a long night of partying, driving home the next morning, is a nice, soulfully mellow earful.
