Vlad the Impaler - C1431-1476

I read this book called Tyrants, and Vlad is what the modern-day dracula comes from.

He was awful - he would impale people on stakes. He would make sure the stakes weren't too sharp so people wouldn't die right away once impaled.

These are the ones I feel are the most evil. No particular order here, just evil people are out there in every area of our world, no particular religion, race or creed. Just evil.

Evil for the sake of their beliefs:

Tomas de Torquemada
Vlad Tepes
Adolph Hitler
Adolph Eichmann
Pol Pot
Mao Tse-tung
Idi Amin
Joseph Stalin and,

Evil, just to be evil:

H. H. Holmes, built a hundred-room mansion complete with gas chambers, trap doors, acid vats, lime pits, fake walls and secret entrances. During the 1893 World's Fair he rented rooms to visitors. He then killed most of his lodgers and continued his insurance fraud scheme. He also lured women to his "torture castle" with the promise of marriage. Instead, he would force them to sign over their savings, then throw them down an elevator shaft and gas them to death. In the basement of the castle he dismembered and skinned his prey and experimented with their corpses. He killed over 200 people.

I think it's a tie: Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, etc., etc. In every generation, there are villains. I think they're here to remind us what humanity is capable of. Fortunately, there are far more very kind, altruistic, caring people - they usually don't become famous. One example of a person in the latter category who did become famous: Abraham Lincoln.
