Papaya should be ok to introduce to your baby as long as he or she has tolerated other solid foods well.

RE:
can I feed papaya to my 6 month old ?

It's a little early, especially for a tropical fruit, many of which can cause severe reactions in babies. I'd start w/ banana first as it's much milder and much more easily tolerated by most babies and infants. Tropical fruits can be really weird w/ some folks' digestion and mouths. I, personally, can eat mango and pineapple, but fresh papaya makes my mouth break out into sores. With the little ones, it's better to cook their fruits and to offer local milder ones, like apples and pears first, cooked w/ a pinch of sea salt. That little pinch of sea salt and cooking brings out the flavour of the fruit, but also neutralizes some of the fruit acids that can cause break outs and acid burns around a child's mouth, esp. from red fruits like strawberries and raspberries. Remember, you're dealing w/ tender, virgin digestions here, and babies are EXTREMELY sensitive. Babies seem to really like sapote, or custard apple a lot, too, and it seems to be gentle enough for most of them.

Papaya For Babies

I really have to agree with Calyx156. Tropical fruits are notorious for food allergies and sensitivities. Also there are studies linking tropical fruit allergies to Natural Latex sensitivity/allergy. It's better if you stick with cooked fruit until baby is over a year old.

If it's mashed or pureed into a mush, you can offer it. Just make sure you watch for allergies.

my guess would be no.. only baby food... unless you mash it up real fine... and give them tiny bits.. that should be ok...
