Being one of those people that volunteer to test new drugs. My family think I'm stupid because of what happened with TGN1412. But as I see it, loads of people do it and the chances of anything bad happening are really rare.
It's like doing a parachute jump, there's a huge risk involved ('chute doesn't open and you fall splat to the ground) but the odds are on your side.
I'm not desperate for money but it would def be helpful- I'm moving into my own place and gonna be paying my own food and bills. I'm 23 male and in good health.

@ Answer #6: I know I've done a jump myself, great fun :)

Whoa slow down. Parachuting is no riskier than driving a car. Plus most of the deaths happen to people who are under a perfectly good canopy and do something radical near the ground. It's very rare that it "won't open".

What evidence do you have to support your statement: 'But as I see it, loads of people do it and the chances of anything bad happening are really rare.'

Any evidence? Or just a convenient assumption to support your decision? I doubt the pharmaceutical companies are very forthcoming with negative results of their studies. You probably lack the data to make such an affirmative statement regarding the risks.

Your body. Do with it what you will. I'd be damned to trust any pharmaceutical company driven by profit to test anything on me. You have a bit more faith in greed than I do.

I know a girl who did the medical testing and her family was against beacause she had daughter to live for. So far she is is fine and her family has reunited but who knows down the road there could be some wierd side effect. I also thought about being a test subject once and my husband is against it beacause we are a family with children and my kids need me. It really is your decision to make. You really have to do what is in your heart. Live today. So far I don't regret my choice in not being a test subject.

it's not crazy. drug studies are a great way to make cash if you have the time to spend participating in one. a friend of mine does them frequently and in doing so has been able to pay for school and spend his extra time doing what he loves. you don't have to work a 9-5 to pay the bills. doing drug studies can get you a lot cash fast that you can live off of for a while until the next job opportunity opens up. good luck!

There are lots of ways to volunteer........auxilary police, volunteer fireman...........the risks of those choices are known an the odds are also....................Trial drugs are different...........No good feelings for helping others, just some bucks and a bad, real bad downside if it goes wrong..........
And if you get hurt doing one of those volunteer jobs i mentioned, at least people will respect you(maybe call you a hero).........Drug testing that goes wrong...most will laugh at you as you go thru the rest of your life twiching or drooling or something equally unpleasant.

If you're fairly knowlegable about the drug you're testing, and fairly confident it won't harm you, go for it. The world needs someone to test their new drugs on, so if you're willing....
