If you cover a pool it should be to keep leaves and debris out but not the rain. Consider he cover after a big rainstorm filled with water it didn't allow into the pool. You won't be able to remove the cover easily, it will be very heavy from the water so you will probably end up trying to roll it from one end to the other and that will force the water into the pool anyway. The holes allow the rain in but keep other stuff out. Rainwater is harmless in your pool so long as you keep the chemicals in proper proportions.

I have a pool that I had to cover also and the cover has little holes in it. It is to help keep debris out of your pool. Rain water won't hurt you pool water as long as you keep a chlorine tablet in your little floater. We put our air mattresses and other floating things you play with in your pool under the cover. Not only does this help keep the rain from sinking your cover, but it makes it easier to sweep off debris.

most likely the holes are small enough to keep debris out of the covered pool. The small holes make it much easier to take the cover off due to the water passing through it so you are only pulling the debris, not an extra 20+ pounds of water. Most people don't worry about extra water in the pool, just debris.

The holes are to stop the cover caving in under the weight of the water from a heavy downpour of rain.

I thought swimming pool covers were for keeping leaves out of the pool during fall/winter..

The holes are probably there for the wind. So when there is a strong wind blowing, air goes through it so it does not get blown away...

The pool cover is to prevent leaves and other things from falling and contaminating the water, not rain. Rain water is pure and doesn't affect the pool water.

Assuming you intend to leave the pool with water in...the holes in the cover will prevent evaporation.

lol It's not to keep water out, it's to keep everything else out, like leaves and bugs.
