GOGOOTS.
it is not an italian word (I'm Italian). Just a squash.

Ciao!

As you can see in the link:
"Do the actors bring any of their own upbringing to their TV personas? "I'm sure we do. My father used to swat me on the back of the head occasionally, which I did to him on the show," Gandolfini says, gesturing to Iler. "My father used to call me gogoots, which I didn't even tell David, and he wrote it into the show. I think it means eggplant." (Actually it's a squash, but colloquially it's an affectionate term for a stupid person.)"

But eggplant in italian is "melanzana", so...Look, now I ask in the Italian Answers if in Sicily eggplant is called in a tipical way that sounds like gogoots. Let's solve this mistery. Wait for me!

WAIT! WAIT! Thinking and thinking I gave birth to the answer.
It's not eggplant but...pumpkins! In Sicily the pumpkin is called cucuzza and its pronunciation sounds like gogoots. Moreover, when someone is stupid is called cucuzza (basically, empty head).

I think I solved the mistery. GOGOOTS = PUMPKIN.
