I would invite truly open debate, rather than relying on the media to tell us what we should debate. I would eliminate gov't secrecy. I would restore the Bill of Rights, and require that all students spend at least an hour a day for 12 years studying the constitution, the bill of rights, and the writings of the founders. Until the start of the 20th century, foreigners were fascinated by the fact the Americans believed their constitution to have the same level of significance as the Bible. Then the education system changed from one of schooling to one of training workers. Today, most Americans have not even read the constitution, and would not understand large parts of it even if they did.

I would elminate the "class system".. I know that there will always be a rich, poor and middle class. and it is impossible to completely get rid of that. But I would balance out the system.. Currently we have people who have million dollar houses and then on the other side people who don't even have water and health insurance. I feel like we live in a society completely catered to the rich. The media, our government,,, and big money corporations are all tied in together and are responsible for the mess that this countries in... Big money is the one thats calling the shots and the end result is that we are suffering because they only make choices that involve their own personal gain. There is only a small perecentage of people that are actually "rich" but that percentage has a monoply on our country so they only make choices to benefit themselves instead of the majority. I would acomplish this in several ways... first by enforcing a tax system that is fair and balanced, the rich should be taxed more based on income... I would make it mandatory for the rich to contribute to humantarian causes.. I don't by any means think that the government should enforce religon on people but I think they can with morals (ex. you can't kill)... I would make so that doctors would have to travel to countries and here within the US, giving vaccines to childern who are sick regardless if they can afford it or not... America needs a change.. it's evident that there's a class war.. and the middle class/poor need to fight back.. This is supposed to be a democracy not who has the most money, but least brains calls the shots

I would take financial and decision making control of health care away from the insurance companies and HMO's and make implementing universal/national health care my number one priority. How can we claim to be the greatest super-power on the face of the earth and yet be the only major country in North America and Europe who does not provide this for her citizenry?

There would be no more of this bull about corporations having the same rights as private citizens. There would be serious attention paid to maintenance of the public infrastructure. There would be affordable higher education. There would be health care available to all at affordable rates. The nation's battlefields would be preserved for all time. And there would be a ham radio station in the White House...

Well let's see...
1. I'd stop killing innocent Iraqis for political purposes. I'd shift the focus of the US military toward Afghanistan and tribal Pakistan. You know. The places where the REAL terorrists are being trained and hidden.
2. I'd restore the Clinton era tax brackets.
3. I'd remove superfluous tax breaks for large corporations.
4. I'd look into cutting or removing farm subsidies. I don't know too much about it, so I'd have to learn a lot before I did anything.
5. I'd restore the NIH's budget.
6. I'd work on some kind of universal health care plan. I can't promise that I'd succeed, but I would try.
7. I would release all non-violent drug offenders from prison. I would legalize the so-called illegal drugs. Then I would mandate a government controlled monopoly on their sale and distribution. I'd institute strict prison sentences for those involved in illegal sale and distribution. The increase in tax revenue would be truly phenomenal. I'd also legalize prostitution, bring all the prostitutes under government regulation. Tax the hell out of them. We've been giving away the tax revenue of America's largest industries for decades. People are going to do illegal drugs. People are going to screw prostitutes. We might as well derive tax benefits from these activities.
8. I would institute genuine securities reform. I'd force all corporations to return profits to the shareholders as a quarterly cash dividend. No more accounting bullsh*t. The money's there or it's not. If investors wanted to reinvest the dividend, I'd make it tax exepmt. I wouldn't tax corporations on profits returned to investors either. Investors would pay income taxes on what they kept, corporations would pay taxes on what was reinvested. There go all the excuses for not doing it.
9. I'd enact legislation making it illegal for oil companies to buy and sell their own futures. I'd also put in place knowledable regulators to keep an eye on them.
10. I'd get politics out of the bedroom. The government would stop trying to legislate morality. Non-harmful acts between consenting adults would not be legislated. Abortion would be legal through the second trimester; however, I would institute a national adoption program to encourage women to take their infants to term and place them within a loving home. It would be the woman's choice, but the option would be there, and it would be easy. Even easier if universal health care were implemented.
11. I'd tax religious organizations just like regular companies. No more free rides. I'd also ban political contributions from religious organizations and/or their shell PACs. Actually, I'd ban political contributions from all incorporated entities. Individuals would have the right to donate up to $3000 to political candidates of their choosing. Period. No more fundraisers. Politicians would have more time to focus on their jobs as public servants rather than spending the bulk of their time raising money.
Well, that's a pretty good start, huh? If I got all that done, maybe I'd work on some of my other ideas...
