I think that depends on wether you follow Darwinism, or Religion.

They both have different answers.

One says we all were on one Continent known as Pangia that broke up slowly in to what are today's continents.

Religion of course depending on which faith has it's explanation.

So choose the one that makes the most sense to you.

I am not sure of the origins of Chinese people. But I think that Japanese people originated on the Asian mainland and immigrated to the Japanese islands. I think that they are a mix of Chinese, Korean, etc.
