Does anybody know the the Cardinals might sign Duncan, or will he be leaving St. Louis?

It is debatable whether this is a good idea. He is a good hitter and a great power hitter, and is just ketting better.

However, his glove is suspect. He has gotten better, but he still is a liability in the field. The best comparison would be Pat Burrell.

That being said, it is likely he will be resigned, for several reasons.

First, he is young and improving. The Cardinals struggle greatly from being too old, and Duncan can be a healthy fixture in LF for a long time to come.

Second, he is the son of the Cardinals pitching coach, Dave Duncan. That does play a role in the willingness of the organization to resign him.

Third, he is a good character guy. This Cardinal squad suffers a bit in this area as well, from the Hancock tragedy to the recent Spezio rehab. Duncan is a good guy and a VERY hard worker with a good head on his shoulders. He is willing to improve his game, and has done so over the last few years. He is light years ahead of where he was when he came up, and will likely only get better.
With Ankiel's rising star, the Cards could have very productive corner outfielders for years to come.

He is not going to be a free agent for quite some time, so I don't completely understand the question's purpose. If you mean should they lock him into a long-term extension now, I would say no - he has to prove he can be a consistent hitter and fielder a bit more.

But Duncan has improved his defense so that now he is not that much worse than other left fielders, he works the count, and he has some pop in his bat. Is he ever a 162-game, 600 at-bat guy? Probably not. But he can give you a good 400-450 at-bats and be productive.

But again Duncan is only in his second year in the MLB and is under the Cardinals thumb for at least another three years.

they could somewhat shop: Chris Duncan Yadier Molina Ryan Franklin Jason Isringhausen Adam Wainwright Brad Thompson they could somewhat eliminate: Preston Wilson Kip Wells Aaron Miles Adam Kennedy does not rather count quantity: Gary Bennett So Taguchi Russ Springer Tyler Johnson I say that Adam Kennedy could pass. he's no longer predicted to be blasting homers, yet how some batting customary a minimum of above .250!!! he's no longer properly somewhat worth the money. i'm hoping the enjoying cards shop Duncan. Duncan is an extremely good hitter. His protective skills (whilst nevertheless shaky) have become better. Of all the adult adult males on that record, the only i'm hoping to no longer see next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days is Kip Wells. regularly, Dave Duncan can artwork his magic and remodel pitchers, yet i think of Wells can't get replaced. Hell, i'm hoping they eliminate him this season! despite if, it rather is a sprint early to start questioning with regard to the low season. we could start up specializing in this season. pass enjoying cards!!!!!!

Duncan is in only his 2nd full year with the Cardinals - he isn't even eligible for arbitration until the '09 season, and for free agency until after the '11 season. Unless he's traded, he'll be with the Cardinals next year - no G.M. in baseball is stupid enough to release a guy who can hit 20+HR/year with a decent batting average.

I think they should get rid of him. He hits for tons of power, but is below average defensively and can't hit lefties. To get the most out of his talent would be to either DH him or put him in a platoon role against righties. Since the Cardinals are in the NL, one of those options is already out.

umm, as much as i hate to say it, they need to get rid of him. in my opinion he isn't that consistant. when he hits it's usually home runs. he strikes out alot. yes he has great power and can hit some really good shots. they need more people to get on base by playing small ball. i also think we need some experience. and chris just doesn't have it. he also isn't the best in the defense department. and if you can't score runs then you better have an amazing defense, and the cards just don't. he has goofed up some plays that were so easy. also some times i think he tries to showboat it to much, sometimes you'll see him dive for a ball when there is really no need.

They will probably sign him, and that's a good idea. He's young, he's good, and with a little time in service he could be great. Besides, he provides left-handed power and hitting behind Prince Albert Pujols, he provides good protection.

They should sign him. I think he's gonna be a real good one. He's been slumping as of late, but he'll turn it around.
