Well, we bought one month supplies of Frontline at the vet for all the animals in the house, 5 dogs (2 outside 3 inside), 2 cats and 1 kitten and 1 ferret (we used kitten frontline for the kitten and ferret) So anyway, the Frontline almost killed my kitten, we had to rinse it all off for like 10 minutes and then we took him to the vet, he's fine now, but the other animals still have fleas. So the Frontline is crap. It's just a waste of our money. (In case you are wondering how we got one month supplies, our vet carries Frontline and he sells one capsule at a time so people can see if it works for their pets, if so, then you can go back to his office and buy a new whole box) (and also if you are wondering if we gave the kitten the wrong type, we read on the packaging "For Cats, 0-5 lbs.", our other cats got "For Cats, 5-10 lbs.") The kitten is 12 weeks. So has Frontline ever worked for you or so you have a story like mine? Which other brand HAS worked for you?

By "almost died" I mean he started having weak seizures, he couldn't move, his eyes twitched (kind of like if you have something in your eye, only it was both of them), He didn't even so much as meow when I rinsed him and usually he kicks me with his back claws out and I get pretty bloody by the end of the bath, He also clattered his teeth, like humans do wihen they are freezing. And he passed out when we were running through the vets doors, I couldn't wake him up, but he was still breathing. The vet said if we'd gotten stuck in traffic or pulled over or something, he would have died before we got to the office.

Trust me, Frontline is not the only thing we are doing. We are flea bathing them all, getting bug repellent dust to use on them, we are endlessly using house spray on our beds, clothes and furnature (we don't have carpet anywhere in the house, we thought that would help, but so far it hasn't. We get an infestation every year, but never this bad. Already these two months (July and Aug.), we have gone through 2) 1qt 2 floz bottles of animal spray, one concentrated 16 floz bottle of dog dip (not used on cats) one 1 qt 2 floz bottle of home spray, one 16 floz aerosol can of home spray, two 16 floz super concentrated insecticide mix that you can mix to the strength you need, more water for cats and dogs and other animals, more concentrate for home use and even more concentrate for outside the home. And there are still fleas everywhere.

We even add a bottle of Lice shampoo or a squirt or two of dog shampoo with every load of laundry, We know that lice and fleas are very different, but that is the only thing that IS working in our plans, we have never had fleas on our clothes, the rest of the house and even the beds are a different story.

Generally speaking there are two types of flea control, Frontline and Advantage. Both work in essentially the same way. You put the liquid on the animal each month.
some animals are more sensitive to one or the other or both.
The animal will foam at the mouth and vomit.
They will usually get used to the flea product over time.

These products do not kill fleas. They kill the eggs of the fleas.
The fleas suck the blood and lay dead eggs.
After two days the fleas won't bite the dog or cat any longer.
You will know this because the fleas will start biting You.
Take a white bed sheet, drag it through the house. The fleas will jump on it. Throw it into the washer and rinse cycle it.
In a dark room, Place a pie pan on the floor, with a candle in the middle and 1/4 " of water. Add two drops of dish soap.
fleas jump for the light and drown.
move it around the room every 15 minutes or during commercials.

After about two weeks the flea population will start dying out.

Buy either advantage or frontline on line at the best price you can get, usually 6 months or one year supply, from Australia.

These take time to work out your program.
After nine months your home will be free of fleas
After two years your yard will be free of fleas.
You don't need to treat the animals during the winter, but when you see one scratching watch carefully for several days.
If several start scratching, Treat them immediately, all of them.
Switching between products prevents immune reaction to one product.
The Plus product is for ticks, if you don't have ticks you don't need it, save you money.
Read the vast amount of data online about fleas.

I not remember the active ingredient in Frontline and the others, read the label. Most of this stuff all the same. I go to a Farm Supply and buy Dog/Cat Dip in a big bottle a lot cheaper and can mix with water to weaken for kittens. READ the labels, most this stuff all the same.
Permethrin attacks the nervous systems of Fleas and Ticks. I sounds like your kitten got a little too much, but, that just an opinion as I was not there.

I mix up a spray with water and only spray the animals' fur. It not have a lot of skin contact.

I don't think frontline should be used on babie animals as it is strong. We flea bathed them and combed out the rest of the fleas with a lice comb. then applied it on their coat on the back of their head so they couldn't reach when they licked. I think there is a frontline for babies. I would actually consider a second opinion from another vet. Unfortunately by the sound ofwhat happened to you, he was just trying to sell it to you, then caring for the animals. Have you tried buying some from another store? How about petmeds.com?
It worked perfectly on our cats, but then again they were indoor only, even after they had flea infection. Some of our friends would also use it, with their outdoor cat.
good luck!

I've been using Frontline for years on my dog & cats with no problem. I've also used Advantage. I was not impressed with Advantix (a dog only product-don't use on or around cats!) There are always going to be some animals with sensitivities to ANY product, even "natural" ones. Be careful.

Just a side note to those of you buying your stuff from on line pharmacies...are you aware that unless you purchase your Frontline, Heartgard, etc. from a licensed veterinarian, many of these manufacturers will NOT guarantee the product? In my opinion, it's best to possibly spend a little more & have that piece of mind.

I used Frontline drops on my large dog for years with excellent results. He had a flea allergy and one flea bite would leave huge sores on his body. If you already have a bad flea problem, it might be wise to bathe, dry, and brush your dog to get rid of some of the excess fleas before applying the Frontline. I didn't know they came in capsules. The drops applied onto the skin between the shoulder blades monthly kept our dog totally flea & tick free.

Wait til your kitten is a little older or use something different than Frontline for him.

frontline works by breaking the life cycle of the flea.(makes them stearile) you may still have to use a bath with flea shampoo to kill existing fleas. youll also find that the fleas can become immune to the medicine if you use the same brand month after month try switching back n forth from frontline to advanticks or how ever they sprll it. these are the best on the market.hope that helps.

I use frontline for my cats and it works OK. Well, my cat had the same problem. we gave him the wrong type and he started vomiting and he wouldn't eat. So, we took him to the vets and they told us that we had givin him the wrong type. So, my cat ,Tabby, lived through it. She is fine and up and healthy. It took a whil;e for the Frontline to wear off. But, we washed her like 5 times a day!

She may just be too young for a full dose.

I have used it with good results, but then switched to revolution because it has worm prevention also.

There are on line sites where you can buy these cheaper than at the vet.

Edit:
Wow, you have a full blown infestation. You are going to need to bomb your house room, by room as well as treat the animals.
