My friend just called me to tell me she woke up bleeding. It was more than spotting but no clots or real heavy bleeding. She can definatley feel small gushes. She hit a deer last night and crumpled her van up, but she called the doctor and they said that if there wasnt any major impact and no airbags deployed then that wouldnt have anything to do with it. Has anyone carried a baby successfully, and had a light period type bleeding? She is so sad, and I told her to think positively, but its kind of hard to, and her husband is mad at her, because her gloomness is messing up his day.(he is a real jerk!)

The sad thing is that 50% of the time, actual bleeding like this will end in a miscarrige in the first trimester. In the first trimester I had similar bleeding, and both doctors I saw gave me these statistics. She needs to go to the doctor and have an ultasound. In my case there was a pocket of blood on my cervix for some reason and my pregnancy continued on just fine. For 2 of my friends who had this bleeding, they miscarried. here's more info from AmericanBaby.com

First Half of Pregnancy:

Miscarriage:

Bleeding can be a sign of miscarriage but does not mean that miscarriage is imminent. Studies show that anywhere from 20-30% of women experience some degree of bleeding in early pregnancy. Approximately half of pregnant women who bleed do not have miscarriages. Approximately 15-20% of all pregnancies result in a miscarriage, and the majority occur during the first 12 weeks.

Signs of Miscarriage include:

* Vaginal bleeding
* Cramping pain felt low in the stomach (stronger than menstrual cramps)
* Tissue passing through the vagina

Most miscarriages cannot be prevented. They are often the body's way of dealing with an unhealthy pregnancy that was not developing. A miscarriage does not mean that you cannot have a future healthy pregnancy or that you yourself are not healthy.

If possible, take her to the ER yourself. Light spotting is normal during the first trimester. But I don't like the sound of a gushing feeling. I too had bleeding in the early weeks. It scared the mess out of me. There was bright red blood and large clots. I went to the ER and everything was fine. They'll do an ultrasound for her and ease her mind. Don't have the husband come, no need to add to an already stressful situation.

I was in an accident in May when I was 17 weeks (I think, maybe 18), a fender bender, but I didn't go to the ER because I felt fine. I didn't have any bleeding, but I did have some tightening sensations in my abdomen. I did some research in one of my pregnancy books anyway and online, and it said that even if the accident is minor, a pregnant woman should always be checked out by a doctor to be on the safe side. Well I did go because at the back of mind I kept thinking what if something is wrong. Nothing was and I'm 33 weeks now.

Your friend should probably go to the ER to be checked, just to be safe and put her mind at ease, especially since she is having some bleeding.

Best of luck to your friend!

I bleed alot welli was pregnant with my second child, i talked to and seen the docs, they did stress tests and stuff but the baby was fine. I also bleed very heavily for 6 months after she was born, to the point that i need to get a blood tranfusion. Turns out I had a small tear in my cervix which takes a really long time to heal.

but in the end baby and i were fine.

i would suggest if shes worried at all to go to the hospital and haveself checked out, theres nothing wrong with being safe. Thats what they are there fore.

gl to your friend

As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I had some light spotting for a few days. My doctor did a vaginal sonogram and could actually see the place where the pre-embryo was attaching--what would eventually become the placenta--was slightly separated from the wall of the uterus...thus the bleeding. I was told to "take it easy" for a few days...no lifting, heavy exercise, wild sex, or sit-down baths. Anyway, I ended up with a big, healthy, full-term boy.

Hi, I bled on and off for the first 7 weeks of pregnancy and went for a vaginal scan and all the saw was the sac. I was then told to some back 2 weeks later and thankfully they found a heartbeat. I am now 23 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby.

Can you friend not go to the emergency room and see if they can give her a scan to make sure all is ok?

At nine weeks I started bleeding. (Not due to a car accident though). I went to the emergency room and they did an ultrasound and they saw the heart beat. Everything was fine for me. She should go to the Dr. if she can. Her husband sounds very uncaring, maybe you could take her?

I'm bleeding really hard throught my pregnancy, and my baby is really healthy. It's not normal, no.
But some women bleed a little or alot all threw their pregnancy. Let's hope it's one of those rare cases. So, tell your friend to have hope!
Good luck!

I had the same thing as the first responder. I bleed for about 4 days during my 6th week. My baby was fine. I hope this turns out well for your friend and her baby.
