It seems like many people feel that corporations are not paying their fair share of taxes, are greedy, and are bitter about CEOs making millions(even though a Hollywood actor seems to be very justified in making millions in a cruddy film), but if they paid less taxes to the government wouldn't the corportations be able to expand, and create more jobs, put more money into health care, thus providing more relief and benifits to people rather than some poorly run government program? I realize its a conservative viewpoint, and I consider myself more liberal than conservative, but it just doesnt make alot of sense to me to raise taxes on a corporations. I am interested in hearing different viewpoints, thanks.

I find it curious that those who despise social welfare programs support corporate welfare programs. Corporations should be expected - and delighted - pay their fair share of taxes in the nation that allows them to earn such generous profits.
The argument that tax increases create unemployment is lame. Corporate greed creates unemployment as CEOs, CFOs and Board members choose to ship jobs overseas to pad more profit for themselves and shareholders. There is no logical reason for a CEO to earn 800 times what an average employee earns at any corporation.
Keeping corporate taxes low doesn't keep jobs here. It only encourages business leaders to chisel away at other means of enhancing profits. Corporate leaders need to learn to be satisfied with a 6% profit margin instead of a 36% profit margin. Profit margins would be higher if the corporations would simply pay their chief executive officers less - much less. -RKO- 08/12/07

Corporations pay a higher percentage tax than most individuals -- and then the individuals get taxed against on what the corporation pays them -- it's govt double dipping.

Personally, I'd rather see the govt drop income tax altogether for individuals and corporations -- and drop 90% of govt mandatory funded programs too -- let people put their money directly where they think it will do the most good.

corporations are never tax payers. they are tax collectors. When you raise their taxes, just like if you raise their rent, labor, the cost of raw materials, etc, they pass the increase on to the consumer in EVERY case. Taxes are a cost of doing business just like any other. You are not going to affect their profits by raising their taxes. Not going to happen. We the people, end up paying their taxes when we buy their product or service.

Nope. Raising taxes on businesses increases the cost of the product, which leads to fewer sales and fewer employees - which leads to more unemployed people paying less income taxes and those who remain employed spending more on the products they purchase.

The gain you appear to get up front turns into a bigger loss when all is said and done.

Corporations create jobs. If you regulate and overtax them, they go else where, and so do the jobs. I think the tax breaks are good.
