TheOnlyBeldin no kidding huh, I used to think it would be great to have a state job but right now I wouldn't want one in Illinois.

As a matter of opinion, maybe the hiring of 1,100 is to replace the ones that have put in their notice. JK

Perhaps they need 1100 new workers to keep the infrastructure running.
Also the number of employees, has no effect on the size of the government.

I love these typical Republican responses! They run up a 4 Trillion dollar debt and then run a campaign on fiscal responsibility! What a joke!

The only reason Republicans like smaller governments is that the jobs have been outsourced at about 3 times the rate to some private that underhires, like what happened at Walter Reed! They care about money and that is ALL they care about! And it certainly showed at Walter Reed!

They have been cutting workers for 12 years. Maybe they need some people who actually work!

Maybe you need 1,100 new workers to keep the courts from taking over your mismanaged government!

Generally its the Republicans who want less government. Democrats believe that (at least in measured doses) government can be a good thing.

However, specific issues will make ANY elected official consider the context.

Consider this: With hundreds of firemen and policement dead and injured after 9/11, should Manhattan have not hired new ones to replace them on the idea of keeping the government small?

Even Guilliani ain't that stupid...

ask the democrats how many more aides were provided the members of congress and if they provided theirselves with automatic raises while they raised taxes and cut back on benefits to the veterans and closed va hospitials and military bases is the reason they had a surplus thats the only goverment they cut and look what it cost to build it back up about twice as much as it would have if we would have had more troops on hand

Democrats generally want *more* government. Republicans generally want to shrink government, but the Bush administration has betrayed Republican principles by making government expand an incredible amount. I don't understand why Republican leadership hasn't disowned him yet; he has betrayed everything the Republican party stands for.

Clinton was better at being a Republican President than Bush!

SSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!

What's wrong with you? Are you some kind of a trouble maker? Don't you know the difference between campaign promises and lies yet?
Less Government= Campaign promise
More government workers= Campaign lie

They all need to work on Blagojevich's defense when he gets indicted after he leaves office for all manners of malfeasance.

ummm hello apple I'm an orange.

Maybe because of a growing population they need more workers?

I think the word duh is appropriate here.

sure, they can pay the workers they have more, but you can blame the republicans for them not doing that..

Democrats want bigger government - and Illinois is as corrupt as they come politically.

Democrats don't want less govt -- they've been the big govt party for decades.

Republicans previously wanted less govt -- until the 1980s when they became the other big govt party.
