I would not expect any problems. They have a history of being a very peace loving society.

The risk that I see is that if they have nuclear capabilities they will not know how to use it / may make mistakes testing it. In the past, they have been said to have purchasing a lot of fighter jets Their own pilots have had a lot of crashes due to lack of training. I would worry that they could make mistakes . But they have the money and want to be able to protect / defend their country if needed. I think that their desire to become a power is more driven by a desire to establish respect in the world. It does not mean that they want a war, they probably just realize that they lack capability and this needs to be addressed.

I think that overall the Indian people have very good hearts/ ethics. I think they just lack a lot of expereince/judgement and knowledge. I mean they care so much for a cow , that they can't harm it , because it means/signifies life. That's honorable. But at the same time, there are villages that abort babies just because they are female and will be a financial liability ? I think that some of the poeple just do not have a lot of education / knowledge yet . I do not understand this kind of thinking.

India is indeed a Nuclear Power already. The options are limited to all nuclear Powers. Having understood the power of nuclear energy, they have to pursue Peaceful options only.

They already are a nuclear power. So is Pakastan.

Right now, they are more focused on each other to become a super power right now.

I dont think it would change much, the are generally allied with the west. They dont seem to show much interest past thier borders.

If they became a super power, they would have to have a major shift in their politics and neighbors. So basically, anything could happen.

After 24 years without testing India resumed nuclear testing with a series of nuclear explosions known as "Operation Shatki." Prime Minister Vajpayee authorized the tests on April 8, 1998, two days after the Ghauri missile test-firing in Pakistan.

On May 11, 1998, India tested three devices at the Pokhran underground testing site, followed by two more tests on May 13, 1998. The nuclear tests carried out at 3:45 pm on May 11th were claimed by the Indian government to be a simultaneous detonation of three different devices - a fission device with a yield of about 12 kilotons (KT), a thermonuclear device with a yield of about 43 KT, and a sub-kiloton device. The two tests carried out at 12:21 pm on May 13th were also detonated simultaneously with reported yields in the range of 0.2 to 0.6 KT.

Nuclear power for any country automatically empowers them and causes other nuclear-capable nations to lift their heads and look at them.

Nuclear power is unique in that it is a faithful and obedient servant - it can be used for peace or for war and it will do precisely what we humans tell it to do. And it's decision is final, especially in the case where people use Nuclear power in war.

Maybe it will take some of the winds of arrogance and hubris out of the sails of nations today, nations such as the US who feel they should be the policeman and government of the world.
