I would venture to guess that whatever team is shown on your local television stations would be the team you root for. So it may be closest in the vicinity. This way you get exposure and a chance to learn about the team. It would be tough to follow a team on a different coast if you dont get to see much of their play, assuming you dont have the NFL ticket on satellite.

Many people root for the team that excites them. As a kid growing up in Californa in the 80's I was surrounded by teams, but as a 7 year old watching his first superbowl,(82) I all could remember was this team with amazing uniforms, orange with black tiger stripes.... wow!
Well coming from the Bay Area, I will always have a soft spot for the Niners, but since that game I have always rooted for the Bengals first and foremost.
Many People who don't have a local pro or College team that I know, actually feel kinda liberated, because they don't havr to fit into somekind of mold, or root for someone because of geography. They are free to pick who THEY want to follow. The only crappy part, is trying to get to a live game.
*Josh W, not to loud you out, but what did your comment have to do with the question either? (not that I disagree with you, I'm just sayin......)

I live within an hour's drive of L.A., and no one seems to care that the NFL is gone, or care if they ever come back. I'm sure that's not everyone's opinion, but you don't see area politicians kissing the NFL's butt, or even trying to get a stadium deal done. I guess L.A. doesn't feel like giving corporate welfare to billionaire team owners.
ADD: Josh W, if it means so much to you, and makes you so upset, then screw you.
