It all depends on your life style? If you have to use a computer for work or need a computer while traveling etc...
Desktops are good, many can be upgraded constantly, while just about all Notebooks (laptops) can not be upgraded, except for external items and sometimes the RAM.
Many notebooks have a hard time playing games, which all depends on your Graphics Card.
With a notebook, if something goes bad on it, like the sound card or graphics card, or hard drive, many times your out of luck and the whole thing needs to be turned in for repairs. While for a desktop, there much easier to "do it yourself" work on them...
Obviously a notebook is very convenient while a desktop is not. Notebooks are small, desktops are big...
It all depends on the user and their lifestyle.

Always PC...Mac blows and always Laptop since you can take it off the desktop and carry it with you to the pool, the nearest Pub, coffee house etc.
