They are very expensive to repair but otherwise they are a well built car. As long as you don't live in a cold climate they are a decent vehicle and I would recommend it. Yes they use oil, they are designed to inject small amounts of oil into the gas to lube the seals. The seals tend to go very quick in sub zero temperature causing the motor to lose compression and need a complete rebuild.

Ahh, its not that bad, Ive owned two rx-7's now and I will own many more rotary powered vehicles. The oil consumption is not so bad that your have too keep a keen eye on it as it will only burn 1 quart of oil per oil change and thats worse case. But you do have to keep up on the maintance, you really have to give it an oil change every 3000 miles. Because it does use the oil to lube the apex seals. If you dont know anything about rotarys then head over to howthingswork.com and check out there illustrations and explanations. As for getting it? depends on what you think of that car. If you like the styling ques then get it. If you dont mind getting your hands a little dirty then it can be very rewarding as just a few mods really raise the horsepower of this car, especially the 12a version. And if your very mechanically incline then you can easily make this car a beast. Id say go for it, but Im just a humble rotard.

Best to have a Mazda mechanic check it out. If it has over 100,000 to 120,000 miles on it, they had problems with the oil seals between the engine housings. You will get an oil leak running down from the top of the engine by the spark plugs and oil filter. A fix requires a total engine rebuild. Usually leaks worse on cold starts. Usually stop leaking when engine warm.

Other than this, they are a great car and great fun to drive.

if you dont know about rx7's then i wouldnt get it. Me knowing personally from owning one. They can eaither be a trouble pit or run like a dream. All depends on how you keep up with it. Those rotaries are special and you gotta be knowledgable about them, You cant just go and drive it. They inject oil so you gotta stay up on making sure the oil level is full and they build up with carbon so you gotta make sure you are running just right. Otherwise you gonna clean your rotors so it stays running right. not worth it if you dont dedicate yourself to your car.

It would depend if there's any other cars you're looking at, in addition to the '85 RX-7, but I'd definitely get it if you don't have it already, they're hard to find if you're not looking in the right place and I'm sure it's a fun-to-drive sports car, plus they stopped making RX-7's and now it's RX-8's.

You did not tell us what they were asking for it. They are not made anymore so keep that in mind. And they were very good little cars. A man lives down the road from me has one and loves it great on gas. And look into how the car was cared for that always plays a part.

I say a good 2,500$ since its good. But I could be more precise if you tell about the paint, km, condition and especially how is the engine. Does it even work?
