So each one of them contributed Rs.25 and paid the amount to the waiter who gave the cash on the counter. But the restaurant owner gave a Rs.5 discount. Of this amount the waiter pocketed Rs.2 and and distributed Rs.3 by giving each one of them Re.1. So by this logic each of the friends contributed Rs.24 making a total of Rs.72 and Rs.2 are with waiter. So where did the Re.1 go out of a total of Rs.75??

The amount of money paid out was Rs.70
for the food and Rs.2 to the waiter: total of
Rs.72 of which each friend paid Rs.24 so there is no missing Re,1 because the bill never was Rs.75

This is a very interesting question. Here's how it works. It is true that each friend paid Rs.25 and covered the bill. 25x3=75. But as the restaurand owner gave back the Rs.5, something happened. The waiter pocketed the Rs.2 leaving the rest (Rs.3) to be distributed equally among the 3 friends, them ending up only paying Rs.24.
Think of it this way. What if the waiter didn't pocket the Rs.2 and the restaurand owner actually gave back Rs.6? Each friend will end up recieving back Rs.2, claiming that they only paid Rs.23. They'd multiply 23 by 3 and add 6 to get 75. (23x3)+6=75. So now we've proven that the problem lies where the waiter pocketed the Rs.2.
Now, the 3 friends do not know about the money in the waiter's pocket (Rs.2). If they knew, they would have said that each of them paid Rs.24 AND 1/3 of an Rs. This all added up with the waiter's cash is a total of Rs. 75

Here's the math:
75=(24+1/3)x3+2

hmmm i thought that they went to a restaurant not a hotel? and what currency is Rs.?

anyway each of them paid Rs. 25
Rs. 25 x 3 = Rs. 75

but the restaurant owner gave them a Rs. 5 discount
Rs. 75 - Rs 5 = Rs. 70

now

what the waiter have is Rs. 5 in which he pocketed Rs. 3
then gave each of them Rs 1.

Summary of Amounts:
Counter = Rs. 70
Waiter = Rs. 2
3 friends = Rs. 3
_______
Total = Rs. 75

TOTAL RS GIVEN =75

AFTER DISCOUNT, AMOUNT LEFT = 5

RS 2 IS KEPT WITH WAITER

SO AMT WHICH IS RETURNED IS RS 3

SO BASICALLY RS(75 - 3)=Rs 72 IS PAID AND THE AMT LEFT WITH THEM IS Rs3.

SO IN SHORT

Rs70 WITH HOTEL
Rs02 WITH WAITER
Rs03 WITH A,B,C
TOTAL Rs 75

NOWHERE HAS THAT Re.1 GONE

There is left over. Each put $10 which is $30, they got back $5 to not fight they each kept a $1 and gave the waiter $2 which equals $5.
