If its the Universe that is expanding instead of the Galaxies in the Universe and its expansion is continuous ,then the space density of the Universe would dwindle down to aproach zero.
Unless the Universe has a mechanism to contract it and condense it again ,it would become a structure which would have the density of gas.

I am more convinced to believe that ,Its the Galaxies that are expanding inside the set boundaries of the Universe, rather than the Universe itself.
In that case the Universe is not expanding, if it is a finite structure being constricted by constrains with definite set Boundaries.
It is dificult to prove whether Dr.Stephen Hawking is correct or Not. As his postulations are only based on theory.

I guess that in a far away future - many billons of years ahead - the universe will start contracting again. All matter will be contracted into a singularity and will be transformed into energy for a new Big Bang.
But there is also the theory that the universe won't stop expanding. In that case - which I consider less probable - the stars would burn out and become cold and the universe too.

As far as we can measure at the moment the universe will continue to expand because there is not enough matter and therefore not enough gravity to cause it to collapse back in on itself.

The possibility of a collapsing universe centres around whether dark matter exists and if so how much.
