I'm not so sure I would bring up any of the crap he's been through unless he brings it up first....I guess if he brings it up you have to be supportive and reassuring, listen to what he has to say and try to comfort him. I don't even think I would bring up the fact that you don't have a dad, that might open some nasty wounds of his and upset him. I think the important thing is to take him out and have fun with him. You're going to be his male rolemodel from here on out. Go out and do fun 'guy' stuff. Try to be a good influence. Show him a good time, I mean he comes from a crappy environment, so take him out to do stuff he doesn't get to do. =) I guess the thing I would do would be to compile (and memorize) a list of questions...bring them up casually through out the course of the day. This will help you get to know him at which point you'll figure out what to talk about....Try talking about things both of you like (ie Art/Movies). I think you're just in a panic b/c this is a new experience. I bet your kid is just as scared of you as you are of him. It might be weird at first, but I think eventually you'll fall into the friend/dad-ish mindset. Good Luck, I hope all goes well for you and for your kid =)

Also if I had the chance I would enter Survivor and Fear Factor.

Not in a million years. I'm not the type to be away from home long, plus I'm not a "people person". No way.

NO! I'd die first!

But that was fiction. The truth is it's Big Sister we have to worry about.
