Flake food is good for fish and its most people first choice as it has lots of different vitamins in it.
Feeding goldfish just flake food is fine so i would change back to them.
I have lots of different fish and they all get fed flake food as well as a vary of different pellets, blanched veg and live / frozen foods

You've clearly described what happens and some symptoms of the tank have toxic ammonia and nitrite levels. (black coloring indicates healing where the fish has literally gotten chemical burns on its scales from the ammonia). You can't keep these fish unless you just want them to suffer and die. The levels will not be fixed by cycling because the tank is overstocked. Return the fish, give them away, kill them. Those are your options unless you want to do daily 100% water changes (and even then the fish will outgrow the tank). Research the nitrogen cycle, invest in a test kit. Start over with some small-bodied, low-bioload fish like guppies or small tetras. In addition: you should probably stop trying to cure the fish of all these diseases. The fish clearly have no immune system because of the poor water quality. They're going to pick up infections from every fungus spore and bacteria that enters the tank system. You'll be fighting a losing battle until the tank remains cycled and does not have any ammonia or nitrites levels at all on a daily basis. You treat one thing and another thing is going to come and the treatment itself will help to lower the immune systems on a daily basis as well.

The food you are using is different in the way it reacts to mouth movement.
The granules move back out of the mouth but the flakes react differently.
It is a bit like someone giving you a lolly-pop and then snatching it back by pulling the stick! Very disappointing for Mr Fish.

Foods are very specially designed for different species of fish, not only for nutritional value, but also based on what appeals to the fish. Your fish is spitting out the food, probably because it doesn't like it, but then it may be because it isn't hungry either. You only need to feed goldfish once a day and only what they can eat in 5 minutes. Yes, I would suggest you go back to its flakes that it appears to like.

You should switch back to the old food, or if you wanted to take a chance try with the granules once more. If not give the granules to a friend.

My goldfish did this for a while when I first got her. She wasn't used to the food or something, so she kept spitting it out and eating it again. She got used to the food after a few days, and eats it fine now.

That is absolutely normal
They are doing that because it's to hard to swallow
When they spit it out again, it will get softer every time they take it back in
I give mine goldfish pellets to change up their diet, but they love, and it's all gone after 5 min
Hope that helps
good luck

It may seem like it is spitting it out because it doesn't like it but actually when they put the piece in their mouth they take a small part off of it and then spit out the rest and will continue to do so until it is gone.

You could try mixing them for a while , another trick you can try is to soak the granules in a clean smallish container using tank water for a while then pouring them into the tank .

Go back to what works. I changed food with my fish and he did the same thing. . . so I had to change back to flakes. Animals have preferences as well. . .
