If you want to take ECR highway from Chennai go straight to Pondicherry from there go to ~ Chidambaram ~ Mayiladuthurai (Mayavaram) ~ Karikal ~ Tirunallar (Sani Kshetram). after having the darshan etc. come back to Mayiladuthurai ~ Kumbakonam ~ Swamimalai (Swaminathaswamy - Murugan) is one of the Arupadai veedu. The distance between these two places is around 60 to 80 kms.depending upon the route you choose. There are many routes available. If you go by car it will take about 24 hours. Starting at Chennai in early morning you can go to evening and finish both temples by evening 8-9.00pm. and by traveling over night you can come back to Chennai next morning. -

the best route with good road is Chennai - Vijayawada - Hyderabad. First half is NH5 the next is NH9. U can take diversion on NH5 before u reach Guntur and take a state highway which takes u directly to Narketpalli NH9 bypassing Vijayawada. U can take NH7 via Kurnool, Mahaboobnagar, Hyderabad.
