I live in Rhode Island and Monday is a holiday here. It is called Victory Day (formerly Victory Over Japan) and we are the last State to observe this day. What do the rest of you think about this?

As the Child of a WWII Paraplegic Serviceman (deceased for some time now), I find it sad and disturbing that there is so little knowledge of the sacrifices that our Servicemembers made not just during WWII, but during all the conflicts/declared wars/police actions that they have HONORABLY Served in.

What is truly scary is the way that WWII is being RE-Written in the History Books that our children and grandchildren are studying from ... they are NOT learning the REAL Reasons why we (America) was involved, and what was the TRUE Evil fought .... and the way our servicemembers CHERISHED our Freedoms, and yes VOLUNTEERED to serve in an unprecidented way ....

I think it's kinda pointless to celebrate the end of a particular war when we've not only fought and ended other wars since then, but are currently in another war with no end in sight. We already have Memorial and Veterans Days to honor those who fought and died... why can't we have a Peace Day to celebrate the times we spend NOT in war?
