i am currently into gundam modelling. After applying pimers, colour and top coat, i have problem drawing panel lines using the markers...the lines were too think and it smudges..
Using MrHobby thinner 50 will eat up all 3 layers...
I have seen the enamel wash method and to clean up the excess with enamel thinner...
Question is, will the enamel thinner eat up my layers of top coat, colour and primer?
Thank you

Most model enamel paint thinners are mineral-spirits which are designed to thin AND dissolve enamel paints !! So the answer to your second question is YES, IF you allow the thinner to sit on the paint, for any length of time.

I use Testor's Model Master products almost exclusively... the primers and paints are enamel, but their gloss and matte top coats are lacquer. Enamel thinner has little effect on the lacquer if just brushed on and off. Lacquer thinner is turpentine, so there are several types of thinners out there.

A WASH is best done with a tiny tiny bit of black mixed in with thinner... usually in about a 1:20 to 1:50 ratio... you put a tiny drop or two from a brush on the panel lines and allow gravity to carry the color along the lines and then clean the excess with a clean tissue or cloth.

My prefered method for panel-lines is a very dark fine mechanical pencil... or very sharp colored pencil if black isn't the appropriate color.

The BEST thing to do is to test the paints and thinners reactions on several pieces of SCRAP plastic.

GOOD LUCK !
