Rajeev's mother Indira is the daughter of Nehru.. how did she get the sur name Gandhi? And how come the so called Gandhi's of today (Sonia, rahul, priyanka) are still using the biggest brand name India has ever had?

Indira Nehru (daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru) married Feroz Gandhi...hence her name Indira Gandhi and her daughter-in-law's too!

Indira married a Parsi man named Feroze Gandhi (no relation to Mahatma Gandhi, other than they both come from Gujarat) in 1942. The marriage was volatile, and there were long periods of estrangement between the two. Feroze Gandhi died in 1960.

jawahar lal nehru was the friend of Gandhi,and indira met gandhi in her childhood several time.Gandhi like indhira as his friend's daughter and Indhira attended many party meetings in her childhood with her father.due to adoring Gandhi,indhira accepted the sur name "gandhi".after marrying Rajeev,Sonia accepted her name as sonia Gandhi
