There's this friend of mine that I've known for 4 years or so. We used to talk and chill easily. Now we are in high school and he got really competitive with grades. Whenever he beats me at something like that, he kind of shoves it in my face, and not as a joke. He complains to me with a kind of "omg i have so much to do" attitude, even though I have a busier schedule and I don't complain. We seem to be only able to talk about grades and school now. This has built up over the years and I can't take it anymore. I feel really pissed and I feel like I can't lose to him no matter what. Should I be this angry? The feeling of him bragging and talking down to me just pisses the crap out of me. What should I do? = /

Hi Dave! I have been there myself, and I used even more years to understand what a fu*king as*hole this so called "friend" was. I am a musician, and back when I was getting started, he always put the music I made down no matter what I did, and as you said yourself, he told me how much better everybody else was, making my way into the music scene a hell to go through. People like that is what I like to call vampires! Cause all they do is putting you down. They feed from you 24/7, taking every bit of joy out of the simplest things. So my friend, he is no friend of you, give him a cold shoulder. I would not recommend you being angry at him at all, why? he is not worth it mate. Instead show him you can have a great life without him telling you sh*t you don`t wanna hear. And of course, study a little harder on tests and so on, ha ha ha, beat him in the grades! It is a win win situation. You gain knowledge and if you get the best grades, well that may come in handy later in life you know! have a great summer, good luck, peace and love from Norway

If you really care for your "friend", you should talk to him
and let him know your points of view. Remember for every situation there are two side of it. Yours and the others.

Ask him how he feels about you. How uncomfortable he is
with you and your studies. Have you done something that he
feels threaten by you, something to minimize his school
performance. Something that he felt embarrassed by.

If really can solve this situation, then walk a way, usually and
I really mean usually, time will do the trick.
