If the string isn't hanging out as a good indication that its still in, how would you know if you forgot to take one out?

I'm not worried about it getting lost inside me either. And no, sometimes I forget. I'm just curious as to how you would know. Sometimes I get paranoid.

Stick your finger up there and reach for the string, or if you reach way up with your middle finger , you should feel the tampon if it's still in there. If you're having sex, your man will feel it. If you REALLY don't know, you have to go to the doc and have him check it out. That happens more often than you'd think! :D

Oh man this happens all the time...not to me but patients come in at least once a day that they lost a tampon. Ok, if you think you forgot you want to check first, just sweep inside and see if you feel anything.
You can have some bleeding after intercourse, odorous discharge, fever, body aches and chills. These are signs of TSS...or Toxic Shock Syndrome. If you are in doubt just to get checked to make sure. Believe me they can get lost up there! Depending on the position of the cervix, it can make it harder for some people to find them.
I've had some women come in with 3 tampons that were forgotten. One woman had 6! So yes believe me when I say it can be forgotten.
It can cause an infection!

After a while there will be a bad odor, you may develop TSS, so an indicator may be TSS symptoms, or if you stick your finger in your vagina and feel the tampon, these are all signs you have forgotten your tampon inside you.

I have had several patients who have forgotten to remove tampons-in one case 3 which must of been there several months.
In each case they complained of an offensive smell and brownish discharge-one even thought it was faeces.
Always check that the string is hanging out if you are not able to feel it do not assume that it fell out.
Vaginal stale blood in a tampon is an excellent medium for bacterial growth and risk of infection including Toxic Shock Syndrome which can be fatal
The tampons were removed swabs sent for culture and antibiotics prescribed because of high risk of infection-all were well fortunately-Ladies please check

Yes, you might experience pain or odor or discomfort, or a bunch of flu-like symptoms that signal Toxic Shock Syndrome.
This is actually pretty serious - my friend is an ER doctor and no one could figure out what was wrong with this one woman until my friend did a pelvic exam and discovered what another doctor had previously missed - a month-old tampon that she said looked and smelled like a drowned sewer rat! Ugh! The woman would have died if my friend hadn't double-checked for this!

it cant get lost inside but it can be forgotten and be hard to remove. It will smell real bad and probably leave discharge in your underwear. at that point you need to remove it or go to the dr. watch out for ts (toxic shock syndrome) from bacteria. It happens you just gotta pay attention

If you get flu like symptoms, vomitting, neausa, dizzyness signs you have Toxic Shock Syndrome, and you can get this from leaving in a tampon. Go to your doctor as soon as possible is you have these symptoms.
