I had same problem with you last year, when I check to the tech support, the labor cost + the part that I have change is more expensive than I buy a New one.....
if the guarantee is expired, you better buy a new one.....

Is your problem with the software or is it some mechanical problem? If it is mechanical, is it under warranty? If it is past the warranty, it might be better to purchase a new one. Printer prices are pretty cheap nowadays, they make money off the printer ink cartridges, toner, and the drum.
If it is software, go to www.hp.com and do a search on your laserjet model. It will give you a list of a different versions, like the 1320n. Select the one you have and download and install the latest drivers for your model.
Without knowing more of the issues you are experiencing, this is all I have to suggest at this time.
Oh, one more thing with a Brother printer that we have at work. We changed the drum, but the printer will always give a toner error message. My boss called Brother and it turns out that there is a reset procedure. Once we knew that, the printer works again. This little 'hint' was not listed on their support site. I think they might be giving some business to the printer repair shops.
I know this has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but it presents a nice lesson. There is a probability that they "do not know the solution" so that you have to take it to a repair shop. Make sure you were actually speaking to their technical support and not their general support in India.

Printer repair costs vary based on the issue, urgency of the request, quality of technician and the type/model of printer. Usually technicians charge by the hour or service event. Some laser jet paper jam repairs on a service contract can be as low as $99.00/service event + parts(if any are even needed) - other type of printers line/dot matrix can cost up to several hundreds and even (if it is an expensive part such as a motor) a thousand to fix. I would never buy a cheap printer that cannot be repaired and inkjets have seemed like more trouble over the years then I want to ever deal with again. I have a 5 year old business and a 15 year old HP laser jet printer that has printed over 1.2 Million pages and still going strong!

I hate to say it, but most printers that are made for home use these days are only built to last about a year or two. If it is older than that, you probably are better off buying a new printer. The MSRP on your printer is about $186 and it's street price is as low as $70. By the time you pay to ship the printer to the company to fix and pay for the actual repairs, you would be far better off buying a new printer.

I have never had success with getting printers repaired. Long ago when they cost $600. and more, they still were not worth repairing. The problem just kept coming back. I would just purchase a new one.
