I remember having my first period, and not knowing what to do with myself, i was checking all the time. And leaks happen alot...to every girl. They suck, but we all know what your going through. Eventually it comes more naturally to you, what to do, What helps for cramps and such.

The day you can use tampons will be a BIG relief. Because then you cant even feel them, but they are easy to forget about too so be careful.

For cramps i try to do crunches, because it helps work out the cramps. Hot waterbottles work AMAZINGLY and vegtables and tea really do make you feel better.

Try to just relax on your period for the first couple periods you have, and eventually in time it all becomes just another routine of life.

Well 12 is the right age...so you're on time. Just be extremely clean around that time.

I hate to tell you this cause I'm not a negative type of person...but leaks are going to happen...it happens to all girls.

On your first and second day over protect yourself by wearing a tampon and a pad, and change every 1 1/2 hours. Take showers ever night and make sure and wipe really good down there, you don't want dried blood. Your breast will probably be sore for the first day or even prior to your period.

Keep your hair short down there by trimming with scissors or just shave. This will keep that area clean all the time.

Welcome to womanhood...you'll have that period for the next 40 years of your life.

There will always be leaks, but eventually you learn to hold yourself in such a way that they become much less frequent.
Use black underwear during your period, and avoid skirts or loose shorts.
Check your sheets every morning for leaks (rinse the sheets and your clothes with cold water and soap right away to get out any stains).
Keep a spare pad or tampon all the time in every purse or bag or locker you use - you can conceal it in a small change purse to disguise it.
If you use tampons, buy the unbleached kind, and change them frequently - tampons can give you TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) which is really scary and deadly. My friend is an ER doctor and saved the life of a woman who had TSS from a tampon that had stayed in accidentally for a few weeks! (and she said it smelled *naaaasty*).
Remember that nothing you do can make your breasts grow faster or bigger - there are no pills, exercises, creams, lotions, food, etc that can affect their growth. It's all genetics and hormones, so only a padded or push-up bra will "boost" your appearance there.
Don't worry about shaving for a couple years, but when you do, ask your mom to buy you some supplies and show you how to do it right. Get some nice shaving gel, a hot steamy bath or shower, and a fresh razor (change the razor head at least two or three times a month).
Zits will become an issue soon too - eat healthy, exercise, and lay off the junk food. You'll have to experiment to find which facial cleanser works for you, and as your hormones change your cleanser may not work as effectively, so keep trying.
Don't read beauty magazines. They are designed to make you feel insecure and inferior, so that you will buy the products and services they claim are indispensible and will solve all your problems. Their idea of "beauty" is very limited and changes monthly. Don't waste your money or time.

Your raging hormones will make your teen years very crazy, but fun, too. Remember to never take yourself too seriously, but to have fun and learn everything you can about life. Make and keep good friends, and don't waste time with anyone who makes you feel bad about yourself. Do what you feel is right, and you'll be just fine.

Well these are some tips I've been taught.

Wear dark [black] underwear and or pants/shorts or whatever you wear when you are on your period, just in case you do have a leak so nobody will see it. In order to prevent a leak change your pad or tampon every few hours...it really depends on your flow that day :x

Oh, the hair thing is no problem, it just happens and who cares.
Boobs?
Don't ask me.
My boobs are almost non-existant....

Look, nobody is really going to care about these things because they are all going through it too. :]

Leaks- Pads go in back if you are sitting a lot, and forward if standing a lot. Toward back if sleeping.
Don't wear tampons to bed- not to be worn more than 8 hours.
Put two in during day, or tampon with a lite pad.
Puberty and anything to do with the experience being easier have to do with regulating your body system.
* Go to bed the same time, and wake up the same time, getting 12 hours' sleep until past twelve, and ten hours' sleep until past age 18, then 8 hour's sleep from then on- and every night.
This regulates' your hormones to have regular hours, even on weekends it should not be varied, because your hormones will run amuck like a roller coaster; up and down moods, etc.!
Eat protein snacks between meals, and make sure you have plenty of Calcium. This helps' your periods be shorter, less flow, and less pain!
If you feel out of sorts, a week before your period is a good time to take some Naproxen Sodium- ALEVE-TYPE pain medicine, because they block the cycle of cramps. Use only 8 to 12 hours apart, or just one or two that week if you have crampiness before you actually start. Take with food, and a whole glass of liquid.
Take two tablets of the 225 Mg.- strength tablets, or at least one and a half, depending on your weight, of Naproxen Sodium at onset of your period, to help cramps.
Aspirin makes' you flow more, as it thins' the blood; so use sparingly, if you use that.
Try extra-strength generic tylenol (not store brands), but be aware of liver damage if you pop these for more than two weeks.
Rest also.
A hot water bottle, either in front or back helps' too.
Keep active, with plenty of sunshine to help your outlook and health during the month.
B-Complex, twice the regular RDA at least, is very important. This is like 4 mg. if it says the RDA is 2 mg.
B-6 especially, helps' the bloating. No more than 25 mg. per day, and closer to the morning, so it won't disturb your sleep.
Walking helps' cramps, but not mine.
When a woman reaches' age 15 she need's "baby fat" on her bones, to be able to conceive in later years, at age 25- with less trouble, and have a healthy baby. This helps' the hormones be sufficient, to take good fats etc.
Don't be alone with a boy- ever.
When you are in a situation that will be good for you to get pregnant, look at your own body secretions to tell when the right time is. Your secretions from the vagina- if the color is clear- and the consistency of egg-whites- stretchy- will make a baby. Wait that day and three days after, if you and your husband don't want a baby. If it is dry, the sperm will die- if it is wet, a baby you will get!
Vitamins and minerals help women keep up their cheerfulness and energy.
Avocados and cottage cheese help you have hormones for more breasts- and eating regularly, every 4 hours, with a snack in between.
