I received many answers telling me McDonald's was my only hope and that I deserved no future for being a criminal. Well, I lost my teaching job only because I opened my mouth and now I am a secretary whose boss knows all about my past and still trusts me with his house, his business, and thousands of dollars cash. Just because I used to drink and got a DUI doesn't make me evil, nor does someone who stole, or bounced a big check or tore a label off a mattress. Thank you to all the people who said, have hope, keep applying. I have a big, 3 bdrm house, my daughter back, a fiance who makes 2 grand a week and new puppy, ferret and 4 birds. My nightmares and memories are mine to deal with but people should be positive and give others hope instead of be mean about it. Life is mean enough. I do deserve what I get, but at times I deserve the good I get too. I just drove over 20 miles to help a complete stranger who needed help late at night. People are basically good, just screwups at times.

Oh there’s a good one Elizibeth E! You’re the type that thinks drinking and driving is so serious and people that do it should be locked away for life. On that same note, I’m quite sure that you’re like every other American that drives irresponsibly. Everytime I drive down the road, I’m confronted by incompetent drivers, road ragers, and people that are so consumed with their own personal life that they feel the need to yap on a cell phone, speed, tailgate, and cut people off because they think that they’re the most important person on the road and everybody else is a devalued incontinence. The day that you’re a perfect person, I’ll let you make statements like you have. Until then you need to look at the part that you’re playing in our national traffic fatalities. It’s not the drunks that are killing people, it’s the irresponsible everyday hypocritical drivers like you. More than 60% of all traffic fatalities happed due to irresponsible, non-intoxicated, non-senior citizens like you.

All jail does is take people that commit petty infractions of the law and turn them into dangerously anti social potential criminals. “If it saves one life…” Have you ever wondered about how many lives jail destroys? Take a drunk, throw them in jail, they get out, and kill people. Where are we saving lives? You’ve got a pretty naïve view on things.

To the topic starter, you were lucky to have recovered. I personally know a lot of people that haven't.

I am sorry you have become overwhelmed. There's been alot happening to you. What I believe would be helpful, is to get out of the house. Find some type of job. You can have a part-time job if you are under age, and it is legal. When you are away from home, you will not have your mom on your back, and you'll be receiving positive feedback from your job. Your self-confidence will be raised. Take each problem that you have and deal with them one at a time. It's too much to attempt tackling all at once. It'll just get you crazy. But, if you complete one thing, you'll feel great, and then move on to the next. Hang in there. Life gets better in time. All these happenings will eventually be in the past. I can assure you of this.

Good for you for getting your life back on track, I hope you find a good job :)

It's a shame that soooo many things are felonies these days, especially the drug related crimes. I'm sick of the government regulating every aspect of our lives, it's time people are responsible for their actions. I shouldn't have to worry about a felony for having a glass of wine with dinner and driving afterwards. Vote for Ron Paul in 08, that might help reduce the impact of government!

Don't listen to all these matherf*****s. They are screwups and will screw up the things for you if you listen to them.

Always go after what you want in life. Keep applying and never give up. You have a lot to offer to this society. Those motherf*****s don't. And this is exactly what pisses them off.

Felons still have the right to work if the employer tolerates this as a practice. Under the law, there is no prohibition against employment of felons.

OK did you really just say that just because you drove when you were drunk you are not evil and you deserve everything that everyone else has? Tell that to the people whose families get killed by drunk drivers. i am sorry but I am finding it hard to feel sorry for you. Just be glad that you are still alive to find a job... even if it is only at McDonalds.

You are right... one little crime could make getting a decent job difficult... some people are very narrow-minded but there always those willing to look past certain mistakes. Cheers to you!

Because a lot of people are quick to judge, and quicker to blame. Don't take it personally -- this is just not a very friendly forum at times.
