According to College Board (the official provider of SAT testing - and also a decent college info search engine) says that only 16% had a high school GPA of between a 3.00 and a 3.24 - and I'd imagine those 16% either (a) had super high SAT scores (above the school's 25th%) or are minorities.

It looks like to get in with a 3.00 you need to score in the high...very high 500s on your Critical Reasoning and Math portions of your SAT and hopefully even higher to really be considered competitive.

Yes, San Diego State (because it's more selective than other cal States - eg. Cal State LA or Cal State Northridge) looks at extra curricular activities - can you cram any in your senior year? they may also look favorably on AP classes.

It also looks like they look first at in-state students so I believe if you're a CA resident you have a tiny edge over someone out of state with the same numbers.

Good luck to you! Just a tip - when you're applying, if you can afford it or get a waiver for it - cast your application net braodly so you have options and if you're rejected from your first choice you have other options. Chapman College and Azusa Pacific University may be worth looking at with your GPA. If you score AMAZING on your SAT tons more schools will open up for you (including UCSD, University of San Diego, Occidental - just to name a few in SoCal).

According to the College Board, 9% of admitted students to San Diego State had GPAs of 3.0 or less. That isn't a lot, but it indicates that there is some chance. Your test scores and essay would have to be really strong, and you do need to get involved in some extracurricular activities. If I were you, I would not just join a bunch of clubs, which would be obvious at this point, but get deeply into one activity, perhaps starting something on your own, rather than trying to fit into an existing activity. It is a long shot, but not impossible.

There are lots of passions to pursue in San Diego and this hotelbye is the place to start finds what San Diego needs to offer. In the San Diego holiday you'll step external of one's rut and you'll examine new activities while you are here and you may only see that finding a brand new desire is an experience in itself. Among the areas must see from San Diego is Balboa Park. This park has around a 1400 acre and here you can find historic buildings, numerous museums, gardens, and natural space. The park was created for the Panama California Exhibition of 1915-1916. The predominant structure is Spanish-Mexican style, low level structures that blend in with the natural surroundings. On the list of highlights of the park would be the Botanical Gardens and lily pool, the Museum of Man, the Museum of Natural History, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the famous San Diego Zoo. Even though you never get into a creating the park is simply a lovely place.

From the perspective of a fellow college-bound student, I think you need to compare your qualifications with the requirements of the school.

I would say that you have a pretty decent chance of getting into San Diego State University if you do well your senior year. I compared your GPA with the high school GPA of first-year students.

You can find this information by doing a college search on collegeboard.com.

Of course you have to take into consideration other factors that come into play. (ex. minority group, first-generation college student, community service, major/undecided)

You should to as much as you can during the fall of your senior year. But to be honest, it is kind of late to catch up to the lot. Maybe think about some backup schools just in case. Talk to your school counselor about your choices.

If an essay is required for the application, write a killer essay.
Good luck.

You can get in. Anything is possible, it's easiest if you have something that stands out about you. Won a spelling bee, play sports, anything that will keep them thinking about you. Your resume has to be great looking, very easy to read. 3.0 is fine. email me at my yahoo account if you need any help. Good luck, most people give up on collage because they think that scores like a 3.0 isn't good enough..to let you know I graduated from MIT with a 3.0. You can do it.

Umm, Im sorry to say this, I really am, but I had a GPA of 3.7 and 100 hours of community service. I had a low ACT score of, I'll say comulative, I received a 20. But with everything I said, that was enough to get me in(admitted). But guess what? I decided NOT TO ATTEND! I went to a community cololege

Now looking at what I had, Im sorry but the letter I received for admitted students said that many had the same qualifications I had and were admitted. Im sorry, its going to hurt, I know, I did not go to the college of my choice, Im going to transfer to a university in 2009 Spring =D

But listen to me!! Go to a community College and get that 3.5 or higher GPA and GET SOME COMMUNITY SERVICE AND SOMETHING ELSE.

Then, you will easily transfer to SDSU =D But 2 years you wil have to bust your *** off like how I am doing it right now to get to the University I want to go, but remember, Good things take time... I wish you Luck. Chaooo!!!
