my car engine suddenly started to shake it sounds like if it was choking with air ,,a mechanic suggested that the carburator needs a full repair-kit and he raised the air uptake pressure of the carburator using two small screws with a spceial screw-driver just underneath the filter case so the shaking rate has become faster (like if the gas pedal is slightly pressed) wht is the best cost-effective method to repair this pb

carabutor kit may cost less than $30,,have someone built it around here about $125,,maybe $200 in a high guess,,to have it rebuilt,,build it urself or have sum 1 do it.
It will save u $$$ in the long run,,,just a tow bill can cost $60 and up,,so,get what u need (carb rebuilt) and not what u want,,(cheap and simple solution)-and the gas u can save with a good tuned carb will make the world of difference in the long run,,hope this helps.

with what little info you gave, first I would suggest not going back to that mechanic, he only turned your curb idle up. that will not fix this problem. with the limited info again it is hard to say, but I would start with trouble shooting the ignition system, check out a chiltons, hayes, or motor manual on that vehicle from the library, look in the trouble shooting section for ignition systems, it will tell you the proper way to inspect and diagnose the plugs, rotor, cap, and spark plug wires. I have a feeling that's where you will find the problem, sounds to me like a cylinder misfiring, if after that you don't find anything wrong I would inspect all the vacuum hoses and vacuum devises again all of that is in the manual. you said that this started all of a sudden, that tells me it is , most likely, not a carb rebuild problem. It may be in the fuel delivery system somewhere but slowly go through the trouble shooting charts and you will find the problem with the least amount of money spent on needless parts. If you haven't changed the fuel filter then get one and change it. mid eighties, it needs it changed anyway, that alone may be the problem. It sounds as though this mechanic also may have messed with the fuel mixture screws, look in the manual on how to adjust them. very simple, but if left in the wrong position can damage the engine and possibly waste a lot of fuel. good luck

This is so odd, or I guess it isn't, but I've had the same exact problem! I also have a 2003 Nissan Altima with a similar mileage to it and it's been shaking for some time now. After repeatedly hearing from our usual mechanic that the car is fine, we decided to take it to Nissan and spent about $800 on God knows what the fix the issue. Literally a day after I felt the car begin to shake again and it would continue on and off. Finally, it got to the point where the service engine soon sign was not only constantly on but would begin to blink as the car did the same things as you've mentioned in your description: trouble accelerating as though there wasn't enough power, and mostly shaking when I was idle or as I began braking. I went back to my regular mechanic since Nissan told me I had to wait a day or so to (maybe) get my car checked, and according to his device it said there was a misfire that involved replacing one of the coils, as you've mentioned. When he looked at it the day before however, he thought it was the spark plug that needed to be replaced, as you've also mentioned. We ended up replacing one of the coils ($80) and so far I've felt a difference, the light hasn't showed up again yet, and it seems to be a lot better. He told me to inform him if anything changes. I'll let you know as well. Best of luck. (Even though this happened to you 4 years ago) lol What ended up being the prognosis anyway?

It does sound like you need a turn up and the carb rebuilt. With a mid 80'scar it is about time ot get it fixed. You can also put a new carb on it, and gain some more performance out of the engine. good luck.

All he did was speed up the idle you need to take it to a different repairman you are going to go through allot more gas with it running that way, in the long run the carb kit would be your best choice

Sounds to me like you need a tune up, or you may have water in your fuel. Follow the fuel line to the fuel filter and if it a white plastic filter, remove it and hold it to the light, see if there are 2 separate liquids in there. If not your fuel is OK. If there is, you have water in your fuel, this will have to be drained out and an additive put in to dry out the water. If this not the case, try a tune up. Plugs, wires, the works. You'll probably have to reset your carburetor.

sounds like it could use a tune up also with cap rotor and wires. a carburetor rebuild kit isnt a bad idea either. also do a fuel filter and pcv valve too. thats what i would do, considering that the engine is in good shape, not burning oil, or low compression.

It sounds like a misfire situation. You may have a bad sparkplug or a bad sparkplug wire. You may just need a new distributor cap. Or you might have a "dead can", and you could find that out with a compression check.
