If you are guilty in fact, and admit your guilt and show remorse for the crime, you are likely to receive a lighter sentence than if you plead innocent, and are subsequently proven to be guilty based on strong evidence presented by the prosecution. This is because the judge will assume that you are trying to "use" the legal system to get away with your crime, and will take longer to rehabilitate.
