Most videotapes and DVD's today spell out the penalties, which are:

Could be up to $250,000 on EACH of the criminal copyright infringement and trafficking AND maximum penalty of five years and a fine of up to $500,000 on the Digital Millenium Copyright Act count.

Much easier to save yourself the hassle and buy the movie when it comes on DVD for usually under $20, or if it is a older movie, under $10 on Ebay or Half.com.

The chances of getting caugth are pretty slim so you really shouldn't worry about it. However, if you start sharing them with friends or selling them it could be in the upper thousands per movie, but its unlikely you'll get caught off of just 1 movie
